Days Around The World
Videography
The irony is not lost on me; dragging a camera bag full of heavy gear to different locations, unpacking, assembling my rig, and pointing it at people and places removes any semblance of ‘reality’. However, in these videos, I want to capture ‘real’ moments….I try and encapsulate the feeling and flavor of these places. It’s an exercise in nonchalance…sneaking around, pretending not to film, until the people in the scene aren’t looking. I’m sure from an outside vantage I look awkward.
The fascination comes after in the darkened edit suite; being able to replace myself and my gear with the lightness of the floating POV of my camera lens, removing myself from the equation and letting the outside world filter in. Often I will see moments I wasn’t aware of which will change the narrative. The edit always surprises me.
